Take a look what it’s like to be part of an eco day during your divemaster course Koh Tao!
During your divemaster course Koh Tao at Sairee Cottage Diving, you will have a chance to learn more than just the bare minimum. We encourage eco conservation and education and teach you how to organise eco programs and organise eco projects.
We believe that caring for the environment is essential as a dive professional. We want you to get inspired during your divemaster course Koh Tao. Then it is all about you inspiring other people during your professional career as a PADI divemaster.
Divemaster Course Koh Tao Eco Programs
We started our day with a lecture on how to use eco websites, Facebook, Project AWARE Foundation, Mission Deep Blue and other social network pages effectively in promoting eco topics. We then spent the remainder of the day conducting a beach clean up, a CoralWatch survey and a coral reef clean up all in collaboration with Roctopus Dive.
The beach clean up crew combed every inch of Sairee beach and collected ten large garbage bags of trash, not including the massive fish net that we also managed to clear off Sairee beach. We spent a good 4 hours picking cigarette butts, plastic straws and tiny styrofoam particles. Not glamorous work, but very satisfying and rewarding.
Meanwhile the dive crew split up into three groups. Two groups were designated to clear Lighthouse bay of underwater debris. They lifted a large tire up and spent quite some time painstakingly cutting fishing nets snagged on coral.
The third dive group dedicated their time to doing a CoralWatch survey. We collected coral bleaching status with a random survey at Lighthouse and uploaded the data onto the CoralWatch database. This helps scientists determine coral bleaching status and also cycles of recovery.
Eco conservation as well as becoming a professional PADI divemaster is all about teamwork. We believe that collaboration between different dive centers is essential when it comes to eco conservation and education. This is why we want to provide divemaster candidates the opportunity to collaborate with candidates from other dive schools. This time the divemaster course Koh Tao of Sairee Cottage Diving collaborated with Roctopus Dive.
